So this blogging business...

So this blogging business...is it just another way for people to validate their existence, or does it give a voice to the masses?
Probably not the latter, as with numerous posting per second that adds up to hundreds of thousands very week.

So, validating existence? The same reason for keeping a diary, to document the minutae of daily life, to say 'I was here'.
But most diaries are not broadcast to the general public in some banal display of ego. Diaries are not generally written for publication, and when they are they're usually self-censored as it takes a rare person who can truly lay their soul bare.

In this vein, one only needs to look at William Faulkner's belief that the best fiction is far more truthful than non-fiction or autobiographical writing. The latter will almost certainly be tempered by some egotistical urge to make a life more interesting - whether that life be the internal or external one.

Even for the most colourful character, the truth will generally be far blander than the version foisted upon the public.
